June 28-July 7, 2024 “Indivisible” group exhibition at the Andes Academy of Art, Andes NY

I’m excited to have my work included in “Indivisible” -a group exhibition at the Andes Academy of Art, Andes NY June 28 – July 7, 2024

It’s a photography exhibition, but I will be exhibiting both my own photograph and the painting it inspired. It will be the first time that I’ve shown a photograph- and I’m thrilled to share what up now has been just a private endeavor. I find that working from my own photos is far better than using other people’s- your eye and sensibility comes through any visual images you make and it helps me feel connected to the reference knowing I composed and manipulated it. Below is the press release. If you are in the Catskills Region, and can swing by the show I’ll be there for the first weekend- and be giving an artist talk on Sunday June 30th at 1 p.m. Details below.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jen Ferguson - “Indivisible” group exhibition at the Andes Academy of Art, Andes NY

June 28 – July 7, 2024

Jen Ferguson will be exhibiting both a painting and photograph at “Indivisible,” a group photography exhibition at the Andes Academy of Art, Andes NY. This will mark the first time that Ferguson, known for painting, will exhibit both a painting and a photograph. Her photos, works of art on their own, are visual starting points for her paintings. Not merely snapshots, but carefully considered and manipulated- they offer a rare glimpse into her creative process. Seeing both the reference photo and the painting together will give the viewer an opportunity to consider the interplay between subject, object, and intermediary. Jen Ferguson will be giving an artist talk with photographer Kathleen Sweeney on Sunday June 30, at 1 p.m.

About Jen Ferguson

Jen Ferguson, originally from the Hudson Valley, is an artist currently working in Brooklyn, NY.  She received her BA in Literature from Bard College and later graduated Pratt Institute with a degree in Design and Illustration in 1991. She also studied painting at The New York Academy of Art and the National Academy of Design in NYC.

Her oil paintings depict landscape and architecture as a seamless whole- finding the beauty in their intersection. In the attempt to capture the spirit of a place, she often combines the specifics of familiar landmarks with imagined details and layers of mysterious atmosphere. Using her own photographs as starting points, she constructs a dream-like version of everyday experience.

Ferguson’s work is included in the collections of New York University Law School and many private collections. She has received grants from The Warhol Foundation and Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and attended residencies with the National Park Service in Manassas Virginia and the Fire Island National Seashore. Locally, she has been in residency at Platte Clove Cabin in the Catskills Preserve and recently participated in the group exhibit “Forgotten Spaces” at Roxbury Arts in March of 2024.
