This new group of paintings is inspired by the Hudson River Valley, where I spent my childhood. The long vistas, gentle hills, deep rivers, and stunning colors of upstate New York formed my aesthetic. Creating this series led me to consider the idea that the scenery of our youth is part of our innate sensibility; in a way, they are always in us. As we ask the perpetual question “where am I?”, we also must consider where we are psychologically, politically, and spiritually. When thinking about these questions my memories and sense of place bring me back upstate. And that is the starting point for these paintings.
